Very beautifully worked out shamrock earrings in green from sterling silver with three green and three white stones. The three-leaf clover (shamrock) is definitely one of the national symbols of the Irish. Legend has it that St. Patrick explained the Trinity to the High King Laoghaire by means of a three-leaf clover. The three leaves symbolised God, Son and the Holy Spirit. According to the legend, the king then allowed St. Patrick to spread Christianity. The three-leaf clover also represents a cross. But long before Christianity, clover played an important role on the Emerald Isle. For example, grinded clover that was rubbed on the eyes was supposed to make visible a fairy island that is supposedly located between Rathin Island and the north coast of Ireland. To cleanse the blood, clover was often brewed and drunk as tea. Also in Ireland the four-leaf clover is said to bring luck, because it is said to attract fairies. The Irish only have the three-leaf clover as a national symbol thanks to the holy St. Patrick. This is exactly why it keeps popping up.
