The Claddagh ring is probably one of the most romantic export hits from Ireland. Exciting stories and legends entwine themselves around the famous ring from Ireland. It is a symbol of eternal love, friendship and fidelity and loyalty. A heart with a crown is carefully held by two hands. The heart symbolises love, the crown loyalty and the hands friendship. In Ireland this special ring is worn as a marriage, friendship and engagement ring.
Depending on how the ring is worn, it gives away of the marital status of its wearer. If the Claddagh ring is placed on the left hand and the heart points in the direction of the wearer, the heart is already taken and safely arrived at the marriage port. If you are engaged you wear the ring on your right hand with the heart facing the wearer. If you are looking for the right one, wear the ring on the right hand but with the heart pointing upwards. In the past and partly still today the Claddagh ring is traditionally handed down from mother to daughter.
